Coffee Break

Coffee Break 2007 was a huge success with $44,000 dollars raised. Thank you to everyone who participated either as a host or a donor. A cup of coffee really does make a difference! Please join us again next year to keep building on our success.

What is Coffee Break?

Coffee Break is perhaps the signature special event for Alzheimer Society branches across Canada. Coffee Break is the single biggest awareness event we run and it is timed to coincide with World Alzheimer's Day.

Individuals, organizations, businesses, industries, churches, long-term care facilities, restaurants and coffee shops are among those taking part in Coffee Break. The concept for Coffee Break is simple. A Coffee Break can occur wherever people pause in their day for a refreshment break. They are an opportunity for people to receive information about Alzheimer's disease and the work of the Alzheimer's Society, and, if they choose, to make a donation.

An Alzheimer's Coffee Break host decides just how simple or elaborate he or she wants the Coffee Break to be. Some simply put out a display of information and a box for contributions beside the coffee machine. Some add donuts or muffins, or homemade baked goods and make it a workplace event. Individuals may hold a Coffee Break in their own home and invite friends and neighbors. Others may choose to be even more elaborate and hold a wine and cheese party or a pot-luck dinner.

Service organizations may choose to hold a Coffee Break as part of their regular meeting. Some groups put on a community Coffee Break in a local hall. Some churches hold a Coffee Break after their Sunday service.

However a Coffee Break is held, whether it attracts six people or sixty, is not nearly so important as the opportunity to tell more people about Alzheimer's Disease and about the work of the Alzheimer Society.

If you would like to host a Coffee Break in your workplace, in your home, or as part of an organization you belong to, please contact us at our Owen Sound office at:
